Mar 8, 2023 04:00 PM to 07:00 PM
HL459 (Highland Hall) - UTSC
Registration Deadline: Mar 6, 2023 12:00 AM
We are so honored to have artist and illustrator, Pardis Pahlavanlu, to teach us how to do lino cutting and relief printmaking. This is a two-part workshop, and they will happen on Wednesdays March 8 and March 15 from 4 pm to 7 pm at HL459. Let's take a break from your academic work.
This event is a collaboration between Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Office (EDIO), the Library's MakerSpace, and the International Student Centre.
-----
In this two-part workshop, participants will learn the art of relief printmaking with lino carvings so that they may create personal logo stamps and gain the technical skills needed for their own future printmaking projects.
In the first workshop on Wednesday March 8, we will work with simple images to learn how to make lino cut carvings and relief prints by understanding positive and negative space in our designs.
In our second workshop on Wednesday March 15, we will spend time drawing our own designs that represent who we are as individuals. Once ready, participants will use the skills they learned in the first session to create their own personal logo stamps. No previous art or printmaking skills necessary.

Light snack will be provided during the session. Please sign up as soon as possible as space is limited.
If you realize that you are not able to make it, please email bett.liu@utoronto.ca to cancel your registration. It will give space for students who are on waiting list to join. Thank you very much for your understanding.

Short bio of Pardis
Pardis Pahlavanlu is living as a guest between Tkaronto (Toronto ) and unceded Coast Salish territories (Vancouver). While her academic studies have revolved around systems of power in contemporary colonial states, her artistic work has centred on the healing that is necessary in theses contexts. Using textured and bold imagery with a mixed media approach, she digs into the topics of mental health, exclusion/difference, and diaspora in hopes of finding new ways to imagine and reflect on her surroundings and experiences.
