Resilience, Empowerment, Visibility: Celebrating Trans Awareness Week through Reflection & Dialogue
Join UTSC offices and community groups in celebrating Trans Awareness Week at this inclusive and informative community event.
When: Monday, November 14, 3:00-4:30pm
Where: HW 305 (Humanities Wing, third floor, UofT Scarborough)
Who: Everyone who is respectful of the intent of this inclusive and welcoming space is invited to attend.
We welcome, in particular, those who identify as members of the Trans community—including, but not limited to, trans, two-spirit, nonbinary, genderqueer, gender non-conforming, gender fluid, agender, and more. This is an opportunity for members of the trans community to connect and build relationships, alongside allies That being said, you will not be required or expected to disclose your identity, unless you wish to share.
What: Community-building, connection, reflection, and crafting in an inclusive space. Food and refreshments will be served.
While 2-Spirit, Trans, and Nonbinary (2STNB+) people face marginalization and discrimination due to harmful gendered and sexual norms, 2STNB+ people also demonstrate resilience, strength, and creativity. Transgender Awareness Week is observed annually and aims to increase awareness, visibility and knowledge of trans people and the issues faced by members of trans communities. It is also an opportunity to celebrate the lives of trans and nonbinary people and the contributions they have made and continue to make.
On November 14, we invite you to join the UTSC community in reflective dialogue and to craft messages of support for Trans Awareness Week. From hardship to empowerment, from trauma to healing, from dysphoria to euphoria - we will explore these themes together and craft messages of solidarity, celebration, and reflection to be used in the Trans Day of Remembrance Vigil, held Nov. 18 at UTSC.
This event is hosted by the following groups at UTSC: Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Office, Women & Trans Centre, SC:Out, the Library, Positive Space Committee, and more.
