QTC: Queer & Trans Joy

OctoberOct 20 2022 15:00 - 16:30417-21 Sussex Ave, Toronto

Discussion Group - St. George

This week's discussion will move online: uoft.me/qtcoct20

In this week’s discussion we will be exploring queer and trans joy!

There is a lot of media attention, research, and stats about the ways that homophobia, transphobia, biphobia, and other forms of oppression can make life hard for 2SLGBTQ+ people.

At the same time, there is joy in existing in our fullness, expanding possibilities and connecting with others who inspire us and see us for who we are! It’s not always easy, but it can be amazing.

What makes you happy about being 2SLGBTQ+? What has queer and/or trans joy looked like for you? How do we celebrate queerness? How do we find joy in our day-to-day lives? Is being happy as a 2SLGBTQ+ person an act of resistance? How do you feel about forced positivity? How do we tackle negativity in queer spaces? In the broader world?

Join us as we discuss how happiness, joy and queerness all intersect with each other in an open conversation with welcoming people!Poster for QTC Oct 20 - Queer & trans Joy: Giving Happiness a Voice! Talking about queer joy and trans joy. The poster features a number of illustrations of people with various skin tones and gender identity holding up progress pride and trans flags in a celebratory way

About QTC:

Queer and Trans Connections (QTC) runs Thursdays, 3pm-4:30pm.

QTC is open to all University of Toronto 2SLGBTQ+ and questioning students. This program will provide an opportunity for 2SLGBTQ+ and questioning students to explore identities, look at a range of 2SLGBTQ+ issues through an anti-racist, multi-dimensional lens, share personal and community experiences, examine current events, and connect with peers. Each week will feature a new topic and sometimes a guest facilitator.

No registration required. Meet at the front 21 Sussex Ave (the corner of Sussex Ave and Huron St), where the SGDO is located, and we will walk into the building together. If you are late, please come to the 4th floor of the building. Masks are encouraged for this program, and the SGDO will have some medical masks for those who require.

If you are attending a planned meeting and require accommodation(s) due to disability, please email me directly and I will work with you to make appropriate arrangements.
