Do you use phrases like “no shade” or “it’s giving” in your day-to-day speech? Do you know where this language comes from, and why do you use it? In this week’s discussion, we’ll explore topics like: What is cultural appropriation? What is queer cultural appropriation? What counts as appropriation? Is it a good or bad thing? What’s cultural appreciation? Where do you draw the line?
About QTC:
Queer and Trans Connections (QTC) runs Thursdays, 3pm-4:30pm.
QTC is open to all University of Toronto 2SLGBTQ+ and questioning students. This program will provide an opportunity for 2SLGBTQ+ and questioning students to explore identities, look at a range of 2SLGBTQ+ issues through an anti-racist, multi-dimensional lens, share personal and community experiences, examine current events, and connect with peers. Each week will feature a new topic and sometimes a guest facilitator.
No registration required. Meet at the front 21 Sussex Ave (the corner of Sussex Ave and Huron St), where the SGDO is located, and we will walk into the building together. If you are late, please come to the 4th floor of the building. Masks are encouraged for this program, and the SGDO will have some medical masks for those who require.
If you are attending a planned meeting and require accommodation(s) due to disability, please email me directly and I will work with you to make appropriate arrangements.
