Lavender Rage: A Celebration of Queer Resistance

SeptemberSep 20 2023 17:30 - 20:30150 Charles St W., Toronto

Social - St. George

The graphic is a cream coloured portrait poster. The top left hand corner has an upside-down lavender coloured triangle at an angle, with the top 2 corners cut off. In typed text on the triangle there are the the words "Students for Queer Liberation Presents", and beneath that, in vintage-style hand drawn bubble text there are the words "Lavender Rage". Below the triangle, there is a hand drawn gay love symbol in the same lavender colour. To the right of the triangle, in white typed letters with black rectangular backgrounds behind every individual word, are the words "A Celebration of Queer Resistance". Next to these words, slightly overlapping them, is a hand drawn trans symbol in the same lavender colour. Above this are the logos of SQL, in a vintage linocut aesthetic, and VicPride. On the top left corner, in black letters are the words "Masks mandatory" and "wheelchair accessible". In the bottom right corner, taking up slightly less than half of the page, there is a vintage black-and-white picture of The Lavender Menace, a lesbian advocacy group from the 80s. There are 2 people with their fists raised in the foreground, with many other people with posters in the background. One of the people in the foreground is wearing a shirt that says "Gay is Good, Lavender Menace". This shirt has been coloured in the lavender colour. The other person is wearing a dark coloured shirt with the lesbian love symbol on it, which has also been coloured in the same lavender colour. In this same colour too, is a mask hand drawn onto the face of this person. Behind this person, coloured in the same lavender colour, is a poster with the words "Gay Pride". To the left of this photo, in black typed lettering, are the words "Sept. 20th 5:30-8:30 pm The Cat's Eye". Below this, in smaller black typed lettering, are the words "Goldring Student Centre 150 Charles St W". At the bottom of the poster, overlapping the picture, in typed white letters with black rectangular backgrounds for individual phrases, are the words "vendors", "performers" and "queer social".

Are you tired? Are you angry? Are you queer as fuck?😉 Then join us (SQL & VicPride) in the Cat’s Eye Cafe for Lavender Rage! If you’re like us and prefer a hands-on approach to learning, you will have the opportunity to connect with activists and learn more about getting involved. There will be food! There will be live performers! There will be a mini market with vendors and artists!
