Gender Justice with Khadijah Kanji

SeptemberSep 28 2022 18:00 - 19:00

Discussion Group - St. George

About this Workshop: This workshop will provide an introduction to gender and transphobia.

About the Gender Justice Series: Gender Justice is an important practice that requires continuous learning and engagement. This workshop series focuses on critical conversations that explore interfaith topics as it relates to gender justice and injustice. The goal of this series is to engage the UofT community to get actively involved in discourse and continuous learning in gender justice.

About our Speaker: Khadijah Kanji (she/her) received her Masters of Social Work in 2017, where her research examined queer subjectivity in the Toronto South Asian diaspora. She currently works in research and evaluation for a university-based agency serving Ontario's youth programming sector; and as a clinical supervisor and therapist for a non-profit, with a practice focus on 2SLGBTQ+ Black folks, Indigenous folks, and People of Colour. Khadijah also does anti-Islamophobia education and activism for an Islamic cultural centre; and writes and speaks regularly on issues of race, gender, and sexuality.

About the Multi-Faith Centre:

Mission:  To foster community, inclusive space, learning, and growth through diverse personal, cultural, and spiritual perspectives and practices.

Vision:  To provide a space where students can engage meaningfully with diverse communities, including spiritual, religious, and non-religious, and find a sense of meaning, place, and self-awareness.

Our team supports the spiritual well-being of students, staff and faculty in order to increase our understanding of and respect for religious beliefs and practices. It does so by providing opportunities for members of the community to engage in questions of meaning, purpose and identity and to reflect, worship, contemplate, teach and learn, read and study, celebrate, mourn, engage in dialogue and interact on a daily basis.
