Accessing Gender-Affirming Medical Care and HRT for Students
The medical and mental health clinics across the three campuses can support you with a range of gender-affirming medical and mental health care services no matter what stage of transition you are at.
St. George Campus
Health & Wellness Centre (700 Bay Street – corner of Bay Street and Gerrard Street)
- Provides gender-affirming care to students, including access to hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and documentation (including referrals) to support access to medical transition-related and gender-affirming surgery.

Mississauga Campus
Health & Counselling Centre (3359 Mississauga Rd.- Room 1152, Davis Building)
- Provides gender-affirming health care to students, including access to HRT.

Scarborough Campus
Health & Wellness Centre (1050 Military Trail – 5th floor of Sam Ibrahim Building in IA5061)
- Provides gender-affirming health care to students, including access to HRT and referrals for gender-affirming surgery.

Please request a 30-minute appointment for your first visit. If asked, you can say it is for an appointment related to gender-affirming care if you feel comfortable doing so.
Nurses and other health care professionals can also support ongoing hormone treatment and support, if requested.
International students who are using UHIP are advised to contact a health benefits plan specialist to determine what types of care and medications are covered through their plans.

Additional Benefits Coverage
There are many student union sponsored health plans that are designed to offer extended health and dental benefits not covered by OHIP/UHIP. Benefits may vary with each plan. Students, seeking confirmation of coverage need to confirm this information with the insurance provider. Your student union representatives can also make this inquiry on your behalf.
For full-time undergraduate students:

Accessing Gender-Affirming Health Care Benefits for Staff, Faculty & Librarians
Benefits offered by each health plan are different. Staff, faculty and librarians can confirm which plan they are enrolled in by reviewing information on the HR Service Centre.
For some employees, GreenShield coverage now includes up to a lifetime of $10,000 of gender-affirming healthcare coverage. Please read more about this coverage. As a note, this coverage can depend on the bargaining unit or union. Contact your specific health benefits provider for details.
For specific information regarding what is covered under your staff, faculty or librarian health care plan, through OHIP, or another health benefits provider, please contact your health insurance provider directly.
With regards to coverage of HRT and other prescriptions, this will vary and depend on your specific health benefits coverage. Staff, faculty and librarians seeking confirmation of coverage need to seek the name or Drug Identification Number of each individual drug being prescribed and then confirm with their health plan.
