Congratulations to all our Rainbow Runners for completing the 2019 Pride & Remembrance Run/Walk, and thanks so much for doing so as a member of the U of T Team! This year, along with perfect weather for both running and walking, we had a fantastic mix of enthusiastic students, staff, faculty and alumni gather to support this important event. I hope you had a great time and check out the team photo we captured before the run.
If you captured any other good photos, we would very much appreciate if you could send them to the SGDO to share with participants and sponsors.
We are thrilled to report that we surpassed our fundraising goal of $5,000 – collectively we raised $5,302. We would like to extend special congratulations to our top fundraisers: Scott Anderson ($1,507), Janet Koecher ($1,023), and Jo-Ann Chiam ($521). These and others on our team were sponsored by 80 fantastic supporters – thank you!
Additionally, I would like to congratulate our Team Captain, Janet Koecher, who for the second year in a row was the fastest runner in her division with an impressive time of 00:23:14.
This year marked the 24th anniversary of the Pride & Remembrance Run – it is the largest fundraising event held during Toronto’s Pride Week celebrations and since its inception, it has raised well over $1,400,000 for local charities that support the LGBTQ+ community. By participating and fundraising with us you have made an important contribution to the beneficiaries of this year’s Run AND you’ve been wonderful ambassadors for U of T at an important community event. Thank you so much for all of your efforts!
This year’s beneficiaries included organizations and programs that cover a range of LGBTQ2S+ communities and needs within Toronto. The full list is available on the Pride Run TO website. You may have noted that next year will be the 25th anniversary of the Pride & Remembrance Run. Stay tuned to updates from the SGDO (see below for ways) so that you can register and prepare to be a Rainbow Runner and part of the U of T team.
