On the morning of Saturday, June 29, the University of Toronto Pride Avengers team joined over 1,200 people from across Toronto in the annual Pride and Remembrance Run – one of the largest fundraising events for local community organizations during Pride week.
For LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) students, staff, faculty, alumni and friends, and for the allies in our communities, the Run is a great opportunity to raise money for local organizations and to celebrate the Pride season. This year, the Run raised money for the Canadian Lesbian & Gay Archives, Planned Parenthood Toronto’s ‘Filling in the Blanks’ project, and The Pride and Remembrance Foundation.
This year, the University of Toronto’s Pride and Remembrance Run Team had a strong contingent represented by 31 members, made up of students, staff, faculty, friends and families. The team raised $5,899.99, landing University of Toronto in 3rd place for Top Fundraising Team! (Please note if interested, donations are still being accepted.)
Ontario Premier and University of Toronto alumna Kathleen Wynne was also a participant in the event, as she has been for over 15 years. Some of the members of the University of Toronto Team were on hand to accept the 3rd place Top Team Fundraising Award from the Premier Wynne after the Run (see photo).
Congratulations to the University of Toronto Pride and Remembrance Run team for this great community effort!
