January 22 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
It’s 2020 and we are back with UTSC speaker series, LGBTQ+ Voices! Join us for a speaker event and discussion around queer, people of colour & ally experiences. This session will feature works by UTSC alum, Téa Mutonji and Natasha Ramoutar, from FEEL WAYS.
FEEL WAYS is a breakthrough anthology of works by writers of Scarborough, Ontario. It is inspired by the suburb of Scarborough, shedding light on its myths and stories. The collection includes fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, and an Introduction by the editors.
Born in Congo-Kinshasa, Téa Mutonji is an author and poet. Mutonji’s debut collection of short fiction, Shut Up You’re Pretty (Spring, 2019) is the first title published under Vivek Shraya’s imprint, VS. Books. It was a finalist for the 2019 Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction award. She lives, writes, and gets lost in Toronto.
Natasha Ramoutar is an Indo-Guyanese writer by way of Scarborough (Ganatsekwyagon) at the east side of Toronto. She is the Fiction Editor of FEEL WAYS and the Social Media Assistant at the Festival of Literary Diversity. Her first poetry collection Bittersweet is forthcoming in 2020 from Mawenzi House.
In celebration of its 20th anniversary, the University of Toronto Sexual & Gender Diversity Office presents LGBTQ+ Voices, a speaker series for the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus. This event is open to students, staff and faculty!
LGBTQ+ Voices will highlight the creative works of LGBTQ+ and ally artists, activists and organizers to explore issues that impact LGBTQ+ communities at UTSC and Toronto more broadly. Through a range of presentation styles, performances and facilitated discussions, speakers will engage students and staff in exploring topics and questions related to intersectional LGBTQ+ identities and communities.
