Q21: A Conversation Café – Sharing Spaces
Thursday, October 3, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Now in its 8th year, Q21: A Conversation Café is your weekly opportunity to converse and connect with students and guest facilitators about the topics related to LGBTQ+ community. Q21 will take place every Thursday from 3:00 – 4:30 pm. Each week will have a theme and a new guest facilitator.
Great snacks. Great chats. Great people.
Join us for our first Q21 conversation cafe of the year where we will talk about our experiences in queer and trans community. What do we mean when we say “the LGBTQ+ community”? What defines an “LGBTQ+ community” space? We will discuss:
- If you have been a part of any before, what experiences have you had in LGBTQ+ social settings: groups, clubs, organizations, events, informal community and beyond, both online and in person? What has been positive about these experiences, and what has been challenging?
- How do we work together to navigate and deal with intersectional issues that impact our communities? How do we negotiate these dynamics within ourselves?
- How do we respectfully and effectively share space with each other despite our different lived experiences and identities?
On Thursday, October 3rd, we will be talking about our experiences with queer and trans communities, communicating and connecting across difference, and finding community on campus and beyond. How do we productively acknowledge and negotiate dynamics such as racism, settler colonialism, transphobia, ableism, and others, both within ourselves and our community spaces? We will also be taking suggestions for upcoming Q21 discussion themes, so please bring your ideas for future topics!
