Q21: A Conversation Café – Redefining the Closet

Thursday, October 10, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

On October 10th, the day before National Coming Out Day, we will be talking about our diverse experiences with the idea of “coming out.” Concepts of “the closet” and “coming out” are different for everyone, and can be more important for some people than others. Concepts of sexual and gender identity vary across spaces and cultures, so acknowledging the context of our identities can help us to understand our unique experiences. At this session, we will be thinking through the ways in which are experiences may be similar and may be different. We will be joined by student leaders who will share some of their own personal stories of coming to understand their identities.

Check out the NewPRIDE short film Out!

  • What does “coming out” mean to you personally? Is this important to you?
  • How might concepts like “coming out” and “the closet” be different for all of us?
  • What makes you feel validated/ affirmed/ seen in your identities?

Q21: A Conversation Café is your weekly opportunity to converse and connect with students and guest facilitators about the topics related to LGBTQ+ community. Q21 will take place every Thursday from 3:00 – 4:30 pm. Each week will have a theme and a new guest facilitator.
