Q21: A Conversation Café – Queer in the Classroom
Thursday, October 17, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
– How have queerness and intersections such as race, class, gender, ability, and others affected your experiences in the classroom?
– What has posed a barrier to your participation in academic settings? What has helped you feel more comfortable in academic settings?
– How can we bring our intersectional identities into the classroom and our fields in ways that enrich our work?
This week at Q21 we will be talking about our experiences as queer students in academic settings. Guest facilitators Geith Maal-Bared and Shawn M. Hercules will share their experiences as graduate students in STEM who have integrated queer identity into their studies through curating events such as “Science is a DRAG!” a night for STEM students to share their research in drag. We will then have a discussion around the ways we bring our identities into our work, and how our lived experiences inform our academic perspectives.
Q21: A Conversation Café is your weekly opportunity to converse and connect with students and guest facilitators about the topics related to LGBTQ+ community. Q21 will take place every Thursday from 3:00 – 4:30 pm. Each week will have a theme and a new guest facilitator.
