LWP Learning Community: How to Get People to Come to Your Event

March 4 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

Through activities and discussion students will work together to learn about and refine outreach strategies for their programming.

This event will be facilitated by Robbie Ahmed. Robbie is a trans writer, singer-songwriter, and activist. He was the Project Manager for the update of PRIMED: a sexual health resource for trans masculine, trans men and non-binary individuals into men at the Gay Men’s Sexual Health Alliance. His previous community work includes running support programs and campaigns for racialized youth at Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention (ASAAP) and sitting on board of directors for Across Boundaries an ethno-cultural mental health organization in Toronto, advocating for culturally appropriate LGBTQ mental health services. He was also the spokesperson for Toronto4All campaign for racialized trans youth. Currently he is an organizer with WAYF (Where are you from collective), an arts activism program for pan-asian youth, which is now running the “Decolonizing Gender” project.

Lead with Pride is the University of Toronto’s annual LGBTQ2S+ student leadership conference. This year’s 2021 Lead with Pride Conference Series will be held virtually between February 24 – March 11, 2021. All interested U of T students are welcome to register for free to be a part of the 2021 Lead with Pride Learning Community! No leadership experience necessary. Register for the Lead with Pride Learning Community.

What is the “Learning Community”?

This “Learning Community” was created in an attempt to keep students connected with one another beyond individual events. We want to offer students the opportunities to connect and make friends like they would have at an in-person conference. By signing up for the Learning Community, students will have opportunities to connect with each other over Lead with Pride-specific social media channels and within fun and interactive Learning Community events.

Learning Community registrants will also be signed up to attend the much anticipated Lead with Pride Speaker Series featuring renowned speakers Denice Frohman (Poet, Performer, Educator), Arsham Parsi (LGBTQ Human Rights Activist) and Ivan Coyote (Performer, Writer)! These speakers will talk about issues that impact LGBTQ2S+ communities and share their thoughts on what meaningful leadership might look like, and on how to build community together, even during this time when we are physically apart.
