Pride Month is an opportunity for the University to celebrate and reflect on the history, courage, and diversity of 2SLGBTQ+ communities. It is also a time to deepen our collective commitment to challenging discrimination, harassment, and infrastructural inequities faced by members of 2SLGBTQ+ communities.
The University of Toronto will kick off Pride 2022 celebrations with Progress Pride Flag Raising ceremonies across our three campuses on Wednesday, June 1. Raising the Progress Pride Flag for the first time across our three campuses highlights the importance of progress toward inclusivity. The addition of the arrow in this flag highlights trans identities and demonstrates the value of intersectionality, representation, and the unique experiences of Indigenous, Black, and racialized members of queer and trans communities. It is also a reminder of the important responsibility we all share in creating a University community that is not only inclusive, representative, and welcoming—but one that empowers every community member to freely and openly be themselves.
