Looking for a workshop facilitation opportunity?

The Lead with Pride 2017 Organizing Committee* is looking for students, staff, alumni, community members, and educators with knowledge and tools to share with LGBTQ+ students at U of T!

Lead with Pride is a two-day community building and skill development conference for LGBTQ+ students at U of T. We are looking for facilitators to run workshops in our upcoming conference, which takes place on February 10th and 11th, 2017. Now in its 8th year, the goals of Lead With Pride are to provide students with the opportunity to engage in vital conversations around LGBTQ+ leadership; develop an understanding of anti-oppression work; practice self-care; and learn tangible, hands-on skills to support student organizing and leadership.

The conference works towards the development of a more inclusive and diverse LGBTQ+ student community within the three University of Toronto campuses. While we are absolutely prepared to welcome a wide range of ideas and topics, we have identified areas that we are especially interested in learning more about this year:

  • Trans and Intersex Healthcare and Mental Health
  • Self-Care and Resiliency
  • Centering Indigeneity and Black lives in LGBTQ+ Spaces
  • Guilt and the Language of Calling In/Calling Out
  • Pronouns and Identity
  • Online Organizing and Internet Safety
  • Questioning Normative Assumptions in LGBTQ+ Communities

Pursuing a peer-education model, we strongly encourage alumni and students to apply. Everyone is welcome to apply as a workshop facilitator, even without a fully developed workshop at the time of application. Additional support will be available to all facilitators prior to the conference. The suggested length of all workshops is 1 hour – 1.5 hours.

The Committee will confirm your involvement no later than December 9th, 2016. Each selected facilitator will be required to meet with the Organizing Committee members during December 2016 or January 2017 in preparation for the conference, so that we may provide you with suggestions to better fit the style of the conference. The deadline for confirming the final version of the workshop is February 3rd, 2017.

If you have any questions about the conference or how to get involved, please email: sgdo@utoronto.ca

*The Organizing Committee is co-chaired by student leaders, consisting of a group of students in partnership with the University of Toronto Sexual & Gender Diversity Office.
