Queer & Trans Students Colour Discussion: Coming Out
January 12 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
This week, we explore what coming out means to us.
- What does it mean to come out/be closeted? How do the communities we are part of as people of colour complicate this? What are some challenges in navigating these communities in terms coming out?
- How is coming out different for people of colour? What are some other obstacles that affect the decision to come out?
- What are some strategies we can use to navigate coming out? What are some reasons you have for coming out or staying in the closet? How can we affirm our identity and other peoples while not being ‘out’?
LGBTQ+ students of colour are invited to build our communities, share stories and engage in discussion at the Queer Students of Colour Discussion Group. This discussion and social is organized as part of an ongoing series to invite LGBTQ+ students of colour and students questioning their gender and/ or sexual orientation together in a confidential space to share stories and ideas as we build community.
New and returning students across all three campuses are invited to meet other people and join in discussions that challenge racism, homophobia and transphobia.
Snacks will be provided.
