The LGBTQ Film Series is a monthly educational film series sponsored by the U of T Libraries, the Sexual & Gender Diversity Office and a rotating group of student organizations and university departments. The series showcases films within the U of T Libraries’ collections, focusing on the lives of LGBTQ people in Canada and internationally.

Fiction and Other Truths: A Film about Jane Rule (1995)

Written and directed by Lynne Fernie and Aerlyn Weissman
57 minutes

Film synopsis: A documentary profile of writer Jane Rule whose literary career produced a wealth of novels and journalistic pieces which, in the face of Canadian censorship, speak eloquently about the lives of lesbians and gay men.

Doors open at 6pm. Film begins at 6:30pm.

We are excited to welcome Lynne Fernie, the director of the film, as our featured speaker for this event. Lynne will be available for a Q&A session after the film.

This month’s screening is co-presented by U of T of Toronto Libraries and the Sexual & Gender Diversity Office.
