All Things Unspoken: A Spoken Word Poetry Workshop

Friday, February 8, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

To complex relationships, bitter tears, and heavy silences. To difficult choices and to silent affections. To my mother, my lovers, and myself. Often, spoken word poetry is an art form used to address certain people and experiences, giving life to feelings we may not reveal out loud in our everyday lives. Even when we are grappling with the many emotions that come from our relationships to our families, those whom we love, or from within ourselves, we can also choose to explore these emotions through artistic expression.

Join the SGDO’s Mahfam Nikoo and Cho Chua in a spoken word poetry workshop to honour the queerest parts of us, giving life to all things unspoken. As a group, we will use a variety of literary tools and creative approaches to write our own spoken word poems, which participants are welcome to present at the end, if they wish to. No previous experience necessary – this space is open to all students who would like to try their hand at poetry or hone their skills as a writer!
